Whether the German national ice hockey team makes it to the World Cup quarter-finals depends on the outcome of the game between Hungary and Latvia. The live ticker.

The German hopes of participating in the quarter-finals of the Ice Hockey World Cup in Switzerland are low. Only with support from Hungary in the game against the favored Latvians would the DEB selection reach the knockout round.

Germany will only progress if Latvia loses against outsiders Hungary in regular time. All other results would lead to the DEB team being eliminated.

Hungary – Latvia 0:1

14th minute of the game: Hungary is still under pressure, the Latvians are creating chance after chance.

11th minute of the game: This hit has consequences for the German team. As things stand, coach Harold Kreis’s team would have been eliminated.

10th minute of play: The next penalty, this time for Hungary’s Tornyal for hooking. And the Latvians strike ice cold, only needing seven seconds in the lead to take the lead. Rudolfs Balcers completes a cross pass from Sandis Vilmanis.

9th minute of the game: Hungary cannot capitalize on its superiority, Latvia is complete again.

7th minute of the game: Now perhaps the opportunity for Hungary to become dangerous. After a two-minute penalty for Vilmanis for illegal checks, they are in the majority.

7th minute of the game: Hungary’s goalkeeper Balizs is the focus, now safely parries a deflected shot and keeps the zero. The goal shooting ratio in the first six minutes: 5:1 for Latvia.

4th minute of play: The first few minutes are as expected. The Latvians are putting pressure on us straight away and are making their first dangerous shots – so far without success.

12.20 p.m.: The game is underway. Back to the starting position: Germany will only be in the quarter-finals if Hungary pulls off a surprise and beats Latvia in regular time.

12:18 p.m.: Only a few moments left until the first face-off. Then the fate of the German team at this World Cup will be decided in Zurich’s Swiss Life Arena.
