Since last year, Alfons was the oldest man in the country. On his 108th birthday, he received a medal from the king and was extensively celebrated with his favorite dish: mussels and fries.
Declerck experienced many historical events in his life, including the two world wars. Remarkable: although he was a native of Ostend, he was born in Bristol, England. He was also a soldier and remained active and sporty for a long time. Even at the age of eighty, he still went swimming several times a week.
