Work has already begun to adapt the facility to UEFA regulations following the feat of the Fabregas boys. The Reggio Emilia plant is indicated if the works were to continue
Ready to go, and the curve is no longer there! Dismantled within three days. On the Monday after the match against Parma, the last match at Sinigaglia of the season, work began to adapt the facility to UEFA regulations. There was no need to wait to find out which competition the team ended up in: whether it was Conference, Europa League or Champions League, a category 4 stadium was needed. The biggest problem was the one relating to the west curve, the one historically intended for home fans, made of tubulars. UEFA requires only reinforced concrete structures, so in record time the seats were dismantled (and sold to fans at 25 euros each with the proceeds going to charity) and the tubes unscrewed. Then the bulldozers did their job, taking away the scrap metal and leaving the site untouched, awaiting the construction of the permanent curve.
Mapei plan B
—
“A curve is no longer there, it disappeared in a few days and we are preparing for Europe”, said the mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese a few days ago on Sky, even before the team qualified for the Champions League. “The pitch will be enlarged because UEFA is asking for larger dimensions; unlike other cities where politics fiddles, we were already making the curve disappear after the end of the match against Parma.” In addition to the curve, the stadium needs several improvements to host European matches. In the meantime, the club has indicated the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia as an alternative venue, in case the works continue. But this doesn’t seem to be the case given the speed with which it is progressing.
other interventions
—
We need to modernize and expand the media areas. Doubling the TV commentary positions, enlarging the press room to accommodate more cameras and better management of spaces for broadcast production means. The hospitality and authority areas will also be expanded to accommodate UEFA delegates, sponsors and VIPs. It is required to have at least 150 reserved parking spaces available. Finally, optimize the management of flows: the access and exit gates for spectators and the renovation of the toilets within all sectors intended for the public.
New facility
—
And it won’t end here. Because the Municipality and the club are proceeding with the project of total renovation of the Sinigaglia, in the style of the Atalanta stadium, built in blocks. In short, the future is already around the corner. Como and Como 1907 waste no time.
