A 21-year-old man died in a parachute accident in northern France on Sunday. An investigation has been opened into the cause of death, the Compiègne public prosecutor’s office reported on Monday.
The accident happened in the municipality of Frétoy-le-Château in the Oise department. “There is little doubt so far that this was an accident, but we are still awaiting the results of several ongoing investigations, such as toxicological analyzes and technical examination of the parachute,” said Compiègne prosecutor Caroline Gaziot.
According to the French newspaper Le Parisien it wasn’t the man’s first jump. He would have made at least twenty by now. Despite the ideal weather conditions, the parachute center of Frétoy-le-Château remained closed for the rest of the Pentecost weekend. The center said on Facebook that it is fully cooperating with authorities to ensure the investigation runs smoothly.
