In the election, Vanaken trumps Zakaria El Ouahdi (Racing Genk), with his rush against Westerlo, and teammate Shandre Campbell (Club NXT), with his wonderful blast against Beerschot.
The fans could choose their Goal of the Year, in 1A and 1B together, on the Pro League website. The shortlist for the Goal of the Year was initially announced for the Club Brugge-Union match, but Vanaken’s goal was later added to the selection.
Later tonight, Vanaken will also be one of the favorites for the Player of the Year award at the Pro League Awards in the Handelsbeurs in Antwerp. Last year the prize went to Ardon Jashari, who subsequently left Club Brugge for a transfer to AC Milan.
