Once again, the PVV has been discredited because the party has used AI to spread fake images. This time, the Brabant faction edited and distributed a court drawing of two Syrian brothers who were on trial in the case surrounding the murdered girl Ryan (18).
The fake images show the faces of the suspects, but with an angry facial expression. The purple background color has been changed to dark gray.
The NOS discovered this. The images were online for a day and a half. Within fifteen minutes after the leader of the PVV in Brabant was asked for a response, the video was no longer visible on Instagram.
Previously, Member of Parliament Maikel Boon was discredited when he distributed fake images of Frans Timmermans via social media.
The PVV said that the message was made ‘on the basis of media reports to draw attention to the problems surrounding the entire asylum chain’. The party says it has removed the video ‘after further study’ and does not want to ‘make any statements through the media’ about possible copyright issues.
In the case surrounding the killed Ryan the brothers received 20 years in prison. The father was sentenced to 30 years in prison as the evil genius behind the murder, which was committed because the girl was said to have damaged the family honor because she behaved too Western.
The original drawing was made by court artist Petra Urban. According to her, adjusting drawings affects the reliability of her work and she calls it “bad”.
“Since only signing is allowed in the courtroom, you can be pretty sure that what comes from there is correct. If people twist that, that reliability is affected,” says Urban.
The cartoonist is considering taking legal action and is contacting the Dutch Association of Journalists and copyright organization Pictoright.
