Andreas Obst cheers on the fans after the victory over Gladiators Trier

As of: May 25, 2026 • 11:28 a.m

The FC Bayern Munich basketball players dismantled the Trier Gladiators in game three of the BBL play-off quarter-finals and moved into the semi-finals. There you meet the Bamberg Baskets, who in turn complete the sweep against Ulm.

It was the first chance to get into the semi-final play-offs for the FC Bayern Munich basketball players and they took advantage of it straight away. After two shows of force in the first two games of the quarter-final play-offs against the Gladiators Trier, the Munich team already had their first match point in game three. Another clear victory catapulted FC Bayern Basketball into the semi-finals early on.

Even start to game three

The guests from the Isar started the game well, Wenyen Gabriel got the first points and also League MVP Andreas Obst secured the first points from the free throw line. But the home team from Trier was able to hold off and the guests made a few inaccuracies.

But Trier could only punish them to a limited extent. Both teams still lacked consistency from the outside. The Munich team ended the first quarter with a narrow 23:20 lead.

Top scorer da Silva and the FCBB pull away

In the second half, the guests quickly stabilized, while the home team collapsed under the FCBB’s show of force. After FCB had an eight-point lead and an airball on Trier’s side, coach Jacques Schneider took his first time out.

But then the game completely slipped away from the hosts, while FC Bayern increased their rebound ratio to 30:9. At halftime, Munich had already pulled away with a lead of 57:33 and Oscar da Silva was the top scorer at halftime with twelve points.

FC Bayern Basketball in the BBL semi-finals

Too many ball losses on the host side played into the hands of the Munich basketball players in the third quarter. After just two minutes, FCBB had increased its lead to 30 points. The successful throw from half-distance by Clayton Guillozet and a three-pointer by Behnam Yakhchali hardly diminished the guests’ superiority.

Nevertheless, the hosts pulled themselves together and were able to annoy Andi Obst during a threesome, for example. However, Justinian Jessup ended this period with a three-pointer from the left side, so that the guests led 81:46.

In the last round, the Munich team stuck to their consistent performance, while the Gladiators Trier wanted to save face despite the big deficit and say goodbye to their fans with an improved performance. This meant that FC Bayern were just unable to break the 100-point mark, but they deservedly secured their place in the semi-finals with a 62:99 win.

Bamberg beats Ulm and follows Bayern into the semi-finals

The Bamberg Baskets followed the Munich team shortly afterwards. Thanks to a dominant third quarter, the Franconians beat ratiopharm Ulm on Saturday afternoon in game three of the joint series with 96:87 (27:28, 20:19, 32:19, 17:21) and kept their clean slate.

After the game was level at 47:47 at halftime, Bamberg pulled away in the third period and left nothing to be desired in the final quarter. Above all, small forward Ibi Watson stood out, being the game’s top scorer with 28 points and converting six of his eight three-point attempts.

Revenge in Semi-final derby for BBL Cup?

The American received particular support from Demarcus Demonia, who contributed 17 points and six assists. Mark Smith stood out for the Ulm team with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, as did Christian Sengfelder, who had 18 points and eleven rebounds.

This means that there will be revenge in the play-off semi-finals for the Final Four of the BBL Cup, where the Bambergers beat the Munich team 103:97 after overtime on their way to winning the cup in February.
