Harry Kane crowns himself with the hat trick in FC Bayern’s DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart. In three years on the Isar, the Englishman has developed from an untitled goal machine to the king of Munich.
Deniz Undav summed it up. “I think it’s now his third year at Bayern and the man scores as he wants. You can’t take your eyes off him in a game like this. Then he makes things ice cold,” the VfB Stuttgart striker shook his head in the Sportschau interview.
Kane shoots the cup final for Bayern
His team had just shown a courageous performance in the DFB Cup final and put up a great fight against FC Bayern. For a long time there was little to see of the record champions’ record offensive. The star ensemble found no remedy against the Swabian duels. In the end, as so often this season, there was a Munich victory (3-0), equivalent to the first FCB cup victory since 2020.
The reason was the man Undav had singled out so reverently: Harry Kane. The Englishman scored all three goals in the game in the second half. A flawless hat trick within 37 minutes. In a final.
Kane declaration of love to Bavaria
Before that evening, the 32-year-old had never won a final in his career. Neither with his first love, Tottenham, nor with Bayern, who are slowly starting to compete with Spurs when it comes to love.
“When I decided to move, it was a big step for me and my family. I loved every second of it. It’s nights like today that make me come here, to celebrate with the fans. They’ve been so good to me, not just on the pitch but also in the city in Munich. I really feel like I’m part of their history now. Scoring a hat-trick in this final, being part of this club and the fans’ memories forever is something I’ll never forget will,” raved Superstar after the game in the sports show.
Kane comes to Munich as an unfinished player
As Undav correctly noted, it has been three years since Kane moved from North London to the Isar for 95 million euros. At that time he was already known as a goal machine, but was considered unfinished given his zero titles in 13 years as a professional.
In his first year on the Isar, the misery continued: FCB remained without a trophy for the first time since 2012. Even Munich’s seemingly endless championship subscription expired thanks to a sensational season from Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Hoeneß ennobles Kane: “Best transfer”
Munich’s memories of this time have faded today. Not least because Kane has increased his goal rate again since he put on the red jersey. In 435 competitive games for Tottenham he scored 280 goals. After 147 games, he has an incredible 146 goals for Bayern.
In this respect, it didn’t seem like an exaggeration when FCB honorary president Uli Hoeneß said into the Sportschau microphone after the cup final that Kane was “the best transfer we’ve ever made”.
Kane with an insane cup goal rate
It was fitting that, after breaking his personal title curse last season, Kane ended his finals drought this year and also stopped Bayern’s losing streak in the DFB Cup in the process.
If you look back at Kane’s performances in the cup this season, the question was less whether, but rather how many goals he would score for Bayern. He had previously scored seven goals in five games between the first round and semi-finals.
Kane succeeds in Bayern’s coronation
His hat-trick was a worthy conclusion, a coronation, so to speak, for the man who had once come to the Isar as an untitled prince and who after three years can boast a royal haul of three top scorers, two championships and one cup win.
Despite all his successes, he is not yet full. “Evenings like today, big finals, will help this team to grow,” he announced, referring to the missed Champions League triumph: “I’m already looking forward to next season.” It is doubtful whether the Munich competition feels the same way given such prospects.
