Will there be a major personnel earthquake at the Cadillac Formula 1 racing team in the next few weeks? According to a report from Italy, that’s exactly what could happen. It says that a premature separation from Valtteri Bottas is no longer a taboo topic.
The extraordinarily weak start to the 2026 Formula 1 season could apparently be Valtteri Bottas’ downfall. As “Sky Italia” reports, those responsible at Cadillac are anything but satisfied with the Finn’s performances in the first five races. It is said that his expulsion is already being discussed internally.
According to the report, Bottas could even fly soon. He will still be in the cockpit at the upcoming glamor race in Monaco, but another disappointing performance in the principality’s urban canyons could mean his end, the broadcaster suspects.
Cadillac already has Bottas’ successor in the team
According to Sky Italia, it is already clear who could succeed Bottas. The broadcaster reports that test driver Colton Herta’s internal shares have risen in recent weeks. The 26-year-old American was signed by Cadillac as number three before the season. Last year he was temporarily considered a regular driver for the Formula 1 newcomer, who ultimately opted for the Bottas/Pérez pairing.
Both Bottas and Pérez are still waiting for their first World Cup point this season. The Finn’s 13th place in China is the duo’s best result to date. Although neither driver has scored a point so far, Pérez appears to be more stable – especially in qualifying, where he regularly finishes ahead of his teammate, sometimes by several tenths of an advantage.
Bottas is not the first driver this season to be counted in the media. Last week there were rumors about a possible Ocon expulsion from Haas. And he was also told that he might not be allowed to finish the year.
