Felix Claar 7, SC Magdeburg, wearing the white SCM jersey, takes the shot while a Lions player in the yellow jersey 78 tries to block him.

As of: May 24, 2026 • 5:00 p.m

The newly crowned champions SC Magdeburg have not shown any weaknesses against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The foundation for the 27th win of the season was, above all, a flawless first half.

Three days after winning the championship early, SC Magdeburg celebrated its eleventh league win in a row. Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team won the Rhein-Neckar Löwen with 33:30 (17:13) in front of 10,582 spectators. The best SCM thrower was the Swede Felix Claar with seven goals.

Error-free SCM settles

Magdeburg took control at the start, gained an early lead and held it for most of the first quarter of an hour. Although David Späth saved a few balls, the SCM worked attentively in defense, forcing the Lions to make technical errors, while the SCM even remained error-free in the first 30 minutes. However, Magdeburg initially couldn’t break away by more than three goals, but still had a clear lead at the break.

Magdeburg doesn’t let anything go to waste

Even after the break, the guests remained focused and extended their lead to six goals. Lions coach Maik Machulla called a timeout and the hosts reduced the score to four goals (22:18/40.). Magdeburg needed a moment to collect itself, but then benefited from two goals from goalkeeper Matej Mandic – the Lions had switched to seven-on-six. In the final minutes, the hosts reduced the deficit again, but Magdeburg’s Mandic scored into the empty goal to give the final score.
