Formula 1 high-flyer Kimi Antonelli also wins the Canadian Grand Prix. The 19-year-old Italian is now 43 points ahead of George Russell, who was slowed down in the race by a technical defect. The international press reviews:

La Tribune: “Revenge is a dish served cold, they say. 24 hours after he was thwarted by his Mercedes teammate in the sprint race, Kimi Antonelli took advantage of George Russell’s retirement on the 30th lap to drive to unchallenged victory in the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.”

Toronto Star: “The Mercedes drivers fighting for the title fought an exciting duel over 30 laps in which they changed the lead several times and came dangerously close to each other until disaster struck for Russell. (…) Antonelli’s path to victory was clear ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who overtook Red Bull driver Max Verstappen in a thrilling duel with six laps to go in cold and windy weather on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and took second place secured.”

Guardian: “What a sensational, dramatic race.”

Daily Mail: “Angry George.”

The Sun: “Kimi Antonelli is taking this season by storm and it’s hard to imagine anyone overtaking him, even though it’s still early in the season.”

Independent: “George Russell stood angrily on the side of the track after being eliminated from the Canadian Grand Prix following a thrilling duel with his title rival Kimi Antonelli. (…) Up to that point it had been a thrilling battle with the lead changing back and forth between the two rivals several times, with Antonelli accusing Russell of pushing him off the track for the second time in a row.”

Gazzetta dello Sport: “Sensation on lap 30 of the Canadian GP: Russell has to give up the race because of a problem with his Mercedes. The driver gets out of the car, visibly angry, while his teammate Kimi Antonelli wins the race.”

Tuttosport: “A race to forget for George Russell, who had fought for victory and pole position in the sprint race against a stubborn Antonelli, but whose dreams of glory were dashed due to a technical problem halfway through the race. With all the consequences that this has for the overall standings.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Antonelli triumphs again! After a crazy and exciting sprint race, the Grand Prix also offered a spectacle.”

Mundo Sports: “Disaster for Russell in the fight for the World Championship. (…) Montreal was the scene of total chaos in Formula 1. The young Mercedes driver (Kimi Antonelli) is once again at the top of the podium. He takes his fourth victory in a row, making him the first driver in history to win his first four victories in this category in a row.”

Marca: “He (Kimi Antonelli) has what it takes to be a champion, he has what it takes to be a legendary driver. He has the pace, the ability to improve over the course of the weekend and there is already this fire in him that is reminiscent of other legendary drivers. Perhaps the closest one is Max Verstappen, and this Kimi is a copy of the first version of the Dutchman. Volcanic, yes. Maybe a little over-the-top. But exceptionally good and ready to move on to something bigger if he takes the title.”

As: “The Mercedes argue… until only one is left.”

sport: “Antonelli wins in ‘killer’ form in Canada.”

View: “Defect decides thrilling Mercedes duel in Montreal. The Canadian GP delivers many stories. One is the tire chaos at the start, another is George Russell’s defect, which decides the race in Montreal. World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli triumphs for the fourth time in a row.”

Crown newspaper: “Teenager sensational. Fourth victory in a row! Antonelli drives away from everyone.”

AD: “An exciting duel between the two Mercedes drivers was interrupted far too early by a defect in George Russell’s car. Kimi Antonelli increased his lead in the world championship enormously, but Max Verstappen also benefited with his first podium place of the year – even if he had to give up second place to Lewis Hamilton at the last second.”

De Telegraaf: “Antonelli (19) has put himself in an excellent starting position in the fight for the world title with his fourth victory in a row.”

Le Parisien: “What an achievement! The young Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the Canadian Grand Prix for the fourth time in a row in Formula 1, beating Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The 19-year-old Italian particularly benefited from the fact that his team-mate George Russell was unable to do so due to technical problems.”

L’Equipe: “Antonelli wins, Russell loses a lot.”
