In the London long-distance duel between the “Spurs” and the “Hammers”, a flop by the German record champions brought about the decision. In West Ham people are now desperate.
Tottenham Hotspur avoided their first relegation in 49 years on the last matchday of the Premier League and will continue to play first-class in 2026/27. The “Spurs” won 1-0 (1-0) against Everton FC, leaving their closest competitor for relegation, city rivals West Ham United, just behind.
Bayern loanee João Palhinha scored in Tottenham’s win. The club is in 17th place in the final table, two points ahead of West Ham, who were not helped by a 3-0 (0-0) win against Leeds United.

Tottenham were the dominant team from the start in the sold-out stadium at the White Hart Line. The match winner was Palhinha (43′), who headed the ball onto the post shortly before the break and then used the rebound. His goal caused emotional scenes in the stadium.
Defeat for Guardiola as a farewell
Star coach Pep Guardiola missed a win in his last game with Manchester City. His team lost 1:2 (0:1) to Europa League winners Aston Villa. Guardiola is saying goodbye after ten years in which he won six championships, the Champions League and three English Cups with City. City and Villa are qualified for the Champions League.

Liverpool FC lost a lead when Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson said goodbye. The Reds only managed a 1-1 (0-0) draw against Brentford at Anfield Road, but they qualified for the premier class after a disappointing season. After the final whistle, Salah was tearfully celebrated by the fans.
Chelsea FC failed to end their messed up season in a somewhat forgiving manner and lost their qualification for Europe with a 1-2 (0-1) draw at AFC Sunderland.
Before the last game, the Londoners were in eighth place, which would have meant participation in the Conference League. With a win, Chelsea would have even played in the Europa League next season. But now the Blues, with their new coach Xabi Alonso, have to concentrate fully on the domestic league and cup competitions next season.
