On Saturday night, Norway sprung a huge surprise at the World Ice Hockey Championships when they beat Sweden 3–2. At the same time, Norway passed Sweden in the standings.

Tre Kronor is now only fifth in Group B, and the next place is no longer in its own hands. If Sweden wants to qualify for the playoffs, the blue and yellow shirts must beat Slovakia in the last game of the group on Tuesday, but even that is not enough.
In addition to a win, Tre Kronor’s place in the next round requires Slovakia to lose to Canada or Norway to get no more than one point from their last two games against Denmark and the Czech Republic.
Sweden missed the playoffs in the World Cup last time in 2021.
