The 2025/26 biathlon season was unfortunate for Ella Halvarsson. The Swede wants to attack again next winter.
Halvarsson had to settle for 27th place in the overall biathlon World Cup. For comparison: the previous winter, the Scandinavian had made it to 18th position and won two World Championship medals (silver in the individual, bronze in the relay).
Things were still going smoothly for Halvarsson until the Christmas break. The 26-year-old took eleventh place in the sprint and ninth place in the mass start in Annecy. At that time she was in 14th place in the overall ranking. But an illness-related absence was her downfall.
Preparation for the next biathlon season is underway
“After Christmas it was quite a disaster,” said Halvarsson to the Swedish TV station “SVT”.
The 2025 individual runner-up world champion is currently preparing for the coming biathlon season. “Now it felt good to rest and I feel like I want revenge,” she explained.
She “feels like I want to challenge myself in all areas. There are a lot of things I want to get better at. Technical and physical aspects. Give more in the gym. Develop myself a lot more,” says Halvarsson.
Biathlon star tinkers with equipment
To make the 2026/27 biathlon season go better, the Swedish ski hunter is also working on her equipment. “I changed the rifle stock and am currently working on it. I hope to increase my hitting rate, especially in standing shooting. Run faster, get better results, win the World Championships. That’s probably the path I want to take,” said Halvarsson.
The World Cup winter begins on November 24th in Kontiolahti, Finland. The Swedish home game in Östersund takes place from March 9th to 14th.
