Hamburger SV has presented the first new signing for the coming season. Kofi Amoako comes to the Rothosen from second division club Dynamo Dresden. Hamburg have made use of the 21-year-old midfielder’s release clause, which is 2 million euros. The club did not provide any information about the length of the contract; according to media reports, the working paper runs until 2030.
Amoako moved from VfL Wolfsburg to Dynamo Dresden in the summer of 2025 for 300,000 euros, where he immediately became a regular player. Across all competitions, he played 33 games in which the six scored a goal and an assist. He increased his market value from 900,000 to 2 million euros.
“Kofi brings a very exciting profile – the mix of physicality and athleticism, his strength in tackling and his intensity against the ball fit our game idea perfectly. He also has good quality on the ball and tactical flexibility,” said sports director Claus Costa. “We are convinced that he will enrich our game and at the same time still has development potential. Accordingly, we are very pleased that we were able to win him over.”
Amoako added: “Claus convinced me of HSV’s game idea during a conversation and helped me with it. After the conversation with the entire coaching team, i.e. Merlin, Loic and Richi, it was clear to me that I wanted to play for this club. I’m looking forward to the first home game because the Volksparkstadion is simply gigantic!” With 2,312 minutes, the U20 national player has the most minutes in the Dresden squad behind goalkeeper Tim Schreiber and defender Alexander Rossipal.
The Italian first division club US Lecce was already interested in Dynamo’s midfield engine in the winter, and Hamburg’s Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin, Mainz 05 and Cologne were also said to be interested. Leeds United from the financially strong Premier League recently entered the race, but Amoako, who was already able to get a taste of two Bundesliga minutes in Wolfsburg in 2023/24, expressly spoke out in favor of HSV, where the prospect is said to have convinced him. Among the most expensive SGD departures, Amoako ranks second behind Niklas Hauptmann, who went to 1. FC Köln for 3.4 million euros in 2018.
