An apartment building is burning in Helsinki’s Kalasatama. Hannu Voutilainen of the band Turmio kätilöt says on social media that his family lives in that house.

A medium-sized building fire broke out in Helsinki’s Kalasatama on Saturday evening. According to the fire marshal on duty, the fire started on the balcony of an apartment building, from where it spread to the building’s roof structures.

Hannu Voutilainen, bassist of the band Turmio kätilöt, told Instagram– on his account that his family lives in that house. Voutilainen is known among midwives in Turmio by the stage name Master Bates.

Iltalehti reached Voutilainen by message.

– Me and my friend are healthy and safe. I would like to thank the emergency center and the rescuers of the fire department for their great work. There was already a little bit of an emergency at the moment when the rescuers came to pick them up from the apartment to the yard, Voutilainen tells Iltalehte on Saturday night.

The roof of the apartment building was in open flames at first, until the situation was brought under control for a good 40 minutes. At 10:22 p.m., the roof caught fire again, said Iltalehti’s reporter Juuso Taipale on the spot.
