Eberl reacts to Hoeneß doubts: “Surprising to me”

Before the DFB Cup final, Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß expressed doubts about the whereabouts of sports director Max Eberl. Now he reacts to the statements.
Sports director Max Eberl of double winner Bayern Munich reacted “very surprised” to club patron Uli Hoeneß’s doubts about a possible contract extension. “I want to do my job and convince people with my work,” said Eberl at the Sky microphone after the cup final in Berlin. “What we played this year as a team, as a club, is something to behold. You can have doubts, it’s really legitimate. Then you talk about it.”
Hoeneß had previously estimated the chances of the 52-year-old staying at “Spiegel” at “60:40” and at the same time answered in the affirmative the question of whether he still had doubts about Eberl, who came to Bayern on March 1, 2024 as the successor to Hasan Salihamidžić. His contract runs until 2027. Hoeneß is considered both a great supporter and a critic of Eberl.
“Surprising to me”
The criticism “doesn’t matter to him right now,” said Eberl after Bayern’s 3-0 (0-0) win against VfB Stuttgart. “He said it. We actually talk all the time. We talked yesterday, talked today. That’s why the 60:40 was surprising to me. The numbers are there now. We played a very good season with the double. That’s what counts for me.”
It was his “honest opinion. Anyone who knows me knows this: I’m not someone who says today: ‘Everything is fine’ – and in four weeks the opposite,” said Hoeneß in response to the Eberl interview on ARD: “That’s the situation – and in two or three months we’ll know exactly what’s going to happen next. I personally see it as relatively positive for him.”
