Willem II beats FC Volendam in a blood-curdling penalty shootout and will play in the Eredivisie again next season

The curse of the Eredivisie clubs in the promotion/relegation play-offs continues. After the 1-2 win in Tilburg, FC Volendam – partly due to the large difference in strength in that match – was the big favorite for the return against Willem II in Volendam, but the team of coach Rick Kruys choked on the fighting spirit of Willem II, which, thanks to a very convincing opening phase and a great match attitude, pulled out a 1-2 win (the score after 90 and 120 minutes) and completed the job in the decisive penalty shootout.
