For some time now, hotel luxury has changed its axis. It is no longer measured in square meters or the number of services, but rather expands above all on concept and originality. And so, there are suites that are remembered forever.
An architecture sculpted in salt in the Bolivian highlands, ancient caves converted into luxury refuges in Cappadocia, tents suspended over the African savanna, domes immersed in the Patagonian skies. Spaces designed with an identity so precise that the room itself becomes the destination, where each decision (materials, light, relationship with the environment) responds to a clear idea. Sculpted by the landscape
The first hotel built entirely of salt in the world is in the Salar de UyuniBolivia, where the horizon dissolves into an infinite white surface. Every block, every wall and every piece of furniture is made of the same material as the landscape that surrounds it. Sleeping in the Salt Palace means inhabiting an architecture sensitive to humidity and climate, where silence and vastness are as much a part of the design as the grainy texture of the walls and the opaque shine of the floors.
In Cappadocia, Türkiye, the logic is reversed but the ambition is the same. The Museum Hotel transformed ancient caves into suites where the past is living matter. Each room responds to the original shape of the volcanic rock: irregular ceilings, natural niches and unexpected passages. Real archaeological pieces coexist with Anatolian textiles and lighting designed to accentuate the depth of the stone. The result is a spatial experience that refers to another time.
And in the Atacama Desert, Chile, Nayara Alto Atacama takes the same idea to the arid extreme.. Built in adobe and native woods with ancestral techniques from the Atacama desert, the hotel achieves a natural thermal regulation that no air conditioning system could replicate with the same elegance. The suites open to the valley through terraces and windows that frame the Salt Mountain Range, or inward with private patios that deepen intimacy.
Part of the environment
In the Maasai Mara reserve in Kenya, Mahali Mzuri understands that the immensity of the landscape requires permeable architecture. Yesus suites (complete tents elevated above the ground) combine light structures and large openings that erase any boundary between interior and exterior. Textiles in neutral tones, furniture with clean lines, handcrafted pieces that refer to local culture. But the true design gesture is in what is not seen: in how the sound of the wind, the animals and the night is integrated into the experience as if it were another element of the interior design.
Something more intimate and authorial proposes La Lancha, on the shores of Lake Atitlán, in Guatemala. These cabins were designed by Eleanor Coppola, wife of Francis Ford, with a very precise look at how a space should feel: lived in, with history, with layers. To do this, he used local wood, handmade textiles and objects that seem to have been collected over time. A hammock in the right place, a window that frames the lake, a warm light that falls on the table are some of the features that add personality. Small decisions that build an atmosphere that is difficult to classify (and even more difficult to pigeonhole).

In Mendoza, Villa Mansa proposes something that few wineries in the world dared to do: convert the barrel into a room. The barrel-shaped suites are located in the countryside of Luján de Cuyo, surrounded by vineyards, and allow a completely immersive lodging experience in the region’s wine culture. The environment does the rest: a few kilometers from the city, the landscape changes according to the season and the views of the mountain range appear with a clarity that surprises even those who already know Mendoza.
At the other end of the country, Glamping Selva Iguazú takes the experience to the heart of the Misiones jungle. Its stores are integrated into the environment in a way that allows you to enjoy the density and sound of nature without losing comfort. The humid heat, the vegetation that surrounds each structure and the proximity to the Falls are part of a stay that would be impossible to replicate in another context.
Of course, Patagonia could not be left out. In Bariloche, the Charming Luxury Lodge & Private Spa offers suites with private spas and hot tubs with direct views of the lake and the mountain range. It is the type of accommodation designed for those who want the mountains and also comfort: after a day of excursion, returning to a suite with that view is the perfect closure.
And in Trevelin, Chubut, Nawal Glamping Domos offers geodesic domes whose transparent structures were designed so that the guest can sleep with the Milky Way as a roof, in one of the corners with the least light pollution on the continent. A proposal that has grown strongly in recent years among travelers looking for Patagonia further away from the traditional circuit.
From the Bolivian highlands to the Patagonian steppe, the same conviction: that a good room can be the very purpose of the trip.
