After the match that was played in Volendam there were disturbances around the stadium. For example, FC Groningen supporters tried to break out of the away section and clashed with the police. Things also went wrong on Ajax’s side. A total of four people were arrested there: three for public violence and one for insult.
Two of them were brought before the examining magistrate today, who decided to extend their pre-trial detention by two weeks. “It shows that you cannot get away with violence here in North Holland,” said the public prosecutor.
“The fact that the violence is directed against police officers who do their best to ensure that matches run as safely as possible makes the matter extra serious.” The other two have already been released earlier.
