An escaped horse caused a bizarre and tragic accident on Texel on Friday evening. The animal was hit not once, but twice. The horse died, the regional broadcaster NH reported.
How exactly the horse managed to escape from its enclosure is still a mystery. What is clear is that the nocturnal wandering ended in drama. According to a police spokesperson, the animal was initially slightly hit by a passing car during its flight. Both the horse and the vehicle suffered minimal damage. The animal probably ran away in panic afterwards.
A little later, around 10:45 p.m., things went horribly wrong on the Postweg near De Cocksdorp. Another motorist could no longer avoid the animal and crashed right on top of it. The second, hard collision was fatal for the horse.
Emergency services responded en masse
Due to the enormous impact of the blow, the emergency services responded en masse and an air ambulance was called. The driver escaped unscathed, although his car was declared a total loss.
The motorist and the sad owner of the horse are now in contact to deal with the sad aftermath of the incident.
