Actor and presenter Ernest Lawson tells Aki Linnanahde talk show on the podcasthow did you meet Nellie-his wife.
Lawson met his wife while studying in a joint theater production. Initially, Lawson was supposed to be in the production as a drummer, not as an actor. However, Lawson ended up joining an improv group, which he was much more excited about than playing.
Lawson’s wife was a dancer in the production. At the first gathering, Lawson paid attention to his future wife.
– I noticed a really wonderful, attractive, beautiful and intelligent person on the other side of the room. Even his intelligence seemed awfully far away from him, Lawson laughs.
Lawson winked at the woman, who in turn winked at Lawson. Being a shy person, Lawson did not dare approach his wife. Fortunately for Lawson, his future wife approached him as Production progressed.
– From all of that, I sensed that I was either reading the signals really wrong, or that he was also looking at me in such a way that he would like to open a conversation, Lawson says.
Lawson admits that he and his wife looked quite different in their first years than they do today. He had long and shaggy hair and a big bushy beard.
– I was a completely different-looking guy back then. There was no way you could call me a freak or put me in front of the television cameras, Lawson says.
– I didn’t work as a performer, I was a poor student like everyone else at the time. He didn’t get to know me for money or looks, but maybe it was the fun stuff, Lawson reflects.
According to Lawson, his wife was the first to fall in love with his voice.
– When we were at the first meeting and everyone introduced themselves, he said that as soon as I started talking, the voice did something in him, Lawson says.
Lawson and his wife have been together for 15 years now. The couple has three children. The family’s first child was born in 2017, the second child in 2020 and the third in 2024.
