Appointment of Inspector General of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority | News item

Everyone must be able to trust that food and products are safe and that we in the Netherlands treat animals and nature with care. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) exercises independent supervision on behalf of the ministries of LVVN and VWS on food safety, animal welfare, product safety, tobacco and alcohol control, animal health, plant health, and nature and the environment. Companies are themselves responsible for complying with the rules.

With tailor-made, contemporary supervision methods, the NVWA encourages good behavior where possible, and visibly enforces where necessary. The NVWA does this in connection with society. Geopolitical tensions, climate change, artificial intelligence, changes in social needs and explosive growth of online trade pose new challenges for the NVWA. That is why the NVWA is committed to innovating supervision and working methods, in close contact with stakeholders within and outside the NVWA. Realizing this vision on supervision is the collective task for all NVWA employees. The Inspector General leads this together with his colleagues in the management team.

Mr. ATAJ (Angeline) van Dijk has been Inspector General of the State Inspectorate of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate since 2019. Previously, she was general director of Arbo and Expertise at the Zorg van de Zaak network and division director of Prisons and Immigration Detention at the Judicial Institutions Service at the Ministry of Security and Justice. At Rijkswaterstaat she was responsible for the establishment of the Shared Service Organization and director of HRM, Administrative Legal Affairs & Real Estate and Communications. Angeline van Dijk studied Dutch Law at Leiden University.

This appointment was made through the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
