1. FC Kaiserslautern will continue to rely on Paul Joly (25) next season. On Friday, the second division team announced that the purchase option for the loan player was activated and the right-back was moving permanently from AJ Auxerre to the Palatinate. According to media reports, the contract will be valid for three years starting in the summer, i.e. until the end of the 2028/29 season.
According to reports, an amount of 1.25 million euros is due as a transfer fee, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. If FCK were to be promoted to the Bundesliga, Lautern would have to pay a total of 2 million euros to the French. The Red Devils have only paid a higher fee for a player eight times to date. With the base fee of 1.25 million euros, Joly initially ends up in 17th place in Lautrer’s transfer history.
Joly called his first season at FCK on Instagram “a season full of lessons and growth, in a club with one of the best atmospheres in Germany.” The Orléanais native got off to a dream start at Kaiserslautern. In his first five appearances he provided four assists and one goal of his own in the 2nd Bundesliga. After that, the number of scorers decreased – he contributed two assists in the spring – but Joly remained a regular despite fluctuating performances and made a total of 28 starting eleven and two substitute appearances.
In the TM community, TM user “bongarce” was happy about Joly’s signing (join the discussion here): “The ‘guy’ has already shown that he can potentially help us in the first league (yes, I know, we’ve already seen a different face of him). Nevertheless: With the long-term contract, the transfer fee will probably be amortized – even if we shell out a total of 2 million. Then we’ll be promoted.” Joly knows how promotion works, as he was able to achieve this at AJ Auxerre before moving to 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
