Queen Máxima warned Sandra Schuurhof prior to the periodic photo opportunity of the Oranges that she did not want to answer questions about one specific subject.
The periodic photo opportunity of the House of Orange is over again: the royal family appeared neatly yesterday to be immortalized by the press. During those moments, the media always get the chance to ask some questions, including yesterday. For example, reporter Annemarie de Kunder asked a forbidden question about Princess Alexia’s love life.
Submit question
Sandra Schuurhof, the royalty fan of SBS 6, also wanted to broach a sensitive subject, but was unable to do so. “We have submitted the questions in advance. They do ask for that, also because they can prepare a bit for it,” she explains in Show news.
She continues: “I can also imagine that it takes some getting used to for those girls, especially for Alexia and Ariane. They are young and you don’t know what is coming your way.”
Indirectly refused
Is a question ever refused? “No, no question is ever refused,” says Sandra. “Now it is true: I am going to change my question. I wanted to ask how Máxima’s mother is doing. When we had to submit the questions, we did not yet know that her mother has dementia.”
She continues: “Then it is not said: ‘No, you should not do that’, but it is said: ‘Well, we just discussed it’, because today was actually last minute, and then they said: ‘But she is going to answer: ‘This is private.’”
Stupid
In other words: an indirect refusal. Sandra: “Then I thought: yes, that won’t do me any good, to put it bluntly, so I’m going to ask another question.”
Presenter Dyantha Brooks: “To be clear: you only have one question that you can submit?”
Sandra concludes: “Yes, you actually indicate one topic: that’s what I’m going to talk about. Of course, you just keep asking questions afterwards.”
