THEthe red carpet of Cannes Film Festival 2026 continues to be one of the most observed stages of international fashion and (in theory) also one of the most controlled. The much talked about one dress code of the Festival prohibits nudity, excessively bulky or cumbersome clothing that hinders movement. Yet, even this year, the stars have found a way to transform the rules into an opportunity to unleash their creativity.

Bella Hadid’s provocation and homage to Jane Birkin

Among the most discussed looks, that of Beautiful Hadidwhich has chosen an extreme reinterpretation of transparency with a Custom Schiaparelli dress characterized by deep cuts and peek-a-boo games. A dress in white lace handmade with extreme precisionsigned Daniel Roseberryand inspired by one of the most iconic looks of Jane Birkin from 1969.

Kristen Stewart’s nude-effect Chanel look

For the photocall of the film Full Phil, Stewart he wore a Chanel suit with see-through effect: an ensemble semi-transparent in which the processed materials create an optical illusion that allows the skin to be glimpsed without ever being completely explicit. The result is a subtle balance between sensuality and control, built through layering and nude nuances that blend with the complexion.

Sharone Stone, the secret of volume

Also among the most photographed protagonists Sharon Stone. The actress focused on a couture dress with a strong scenic impact, characterized by important volumes and from one structured hood which amplifies the silhouette creating a monumental effect. Precisely this element, apparently “bulky”, becomes the key point of the look: a way to play with the rules on the ban on excessively bulky clothes through an architectural construction which however remains technically within the limits of the dress code.

Chloé Zhao, sophisticated and transparent look

Also Chloe Zhao, president of the jury of this edition of the Festival and director of Hamnethas turned the spotlight on the topic of dress code since the opening ceremony. On stage he chose a black dress designed by Gabriela Hearstmade of silk, knit and lace, embellished with floral details and ruffles. A sophisticated look but full of decorative elements and movement, which according to many observers falls precisely in that gray area between respect and reinterpretation of the rules of the Festival.

Natasha Poly, the nude look that pushes the dress code to the limit

Among the boldest looks on the Cannes 2026 red carpet, that of Natasha Poly. There supermodel who chose to play openly with the theme of transparency. Poly wore a black dress by Ferragamocompletely sheer and characterized by a deep neckline.

Riley Keough, transparent tailoring

Riley Keough is among the protagonists who have most cleverly reinterpreted the dress code of the Cannes Film Festival 2026. For the premiere of Histoires Parallèlesthe actress chose a Chanel ensemble from the spring 2026 collection in powder pink organza, consisting of coordinated blazer and midi skirtboth finished with embroidered details. The look, apparently romantic and delicate, however hides a much bolder play of layering: under the suit, Keough wore a baby blue bra and matching boy shorts for an unexpected visual effect that touches the limit of the regulation on the ban on nudity.

Charlotte Cardin follows the lace trend

There Canadian singer she appeared on the red carpet with a transparent black dress by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarelloan elegant exercise in “see-not-see” that plays with sensuality in a calibrated but evident way. A sophisticated and deliberately provocative look.
