Philipp Jung, co-founder of MANDY and Get Physical Music, is said to have died in Costa Rica. With “Body Language” he shaped an entire era of the house scene.
The international club scene mourns Philipp Jung. The DJ, producer and co-founder of MANDY and the Get Physical Music label is said to have died in Costa Rica.
This is reported by the Berlin radio station 106.8 pure fm, citing Thomas Koch alias DJ T., a long-time companion of Jung. An official announcement from family, management or Get Physical Music was initially pending.
“He was one of my best and longest friends. That just blows me away,” Koch told pure fm.
Philipp Jung shaped the sound of the 2000s
Together with Patrick Bodmer, Philipp Jung founded the duo MANDY, which has been one of the best-known names in the German house scene since the early 2000s. The project received international attention especially with “Body Language”, a collaboration with Booka Shade. The track quickly became a staple at many club nights and is still considered one of the most influential house releases of its time.
Jung and Bodmer stood for a sound that combined house, minimal and melodic club music. Their sets took them through clubs and festivals on several continents.
Get Physical became the central label of the scene
In 2002, Philipp Jung was one of the co-founders of Get Physical Music. In addition to Patrick Bodmer, DJ T., Booka Shade and Peter Hayo were also involved. In the following years, the Berlin label released music from numerous international producers and developed into an important address for electronic club music.
Especially in the noughties, Get Physical had a significant influence on the development of the global house scene. Many of the label’s releases found their way from small clubs directly into international charts and festival line-ups.
Retreat to Costa Rica
Philipp Jung last lived in Costa Rica. There he remained musically active and continued to work as a DJ and producer.
