Private star journalist Jan Uriot hopes that Cornald Maas will be permanently eliminated as commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest. He hates that man. “Made me a shitty mess.”
The way in which NOS reported the Eurovision Song Contest this year was a relief for many viewers and critics. The boycott by AvroTros meant that regular commentator Cornald Maas had to stay at home and that was very nice, according to Privé star journalist Jan Uriot. He hopes this will become something permanent.
Small conflict
Jan thinks we should participate in the song festival again next year. “Then leave it at the NOS next year, and not at AvroTros. Then we will also get rid of Cornald Maas,” he says in Strictly Private.
The journalist is not a fan of Cornald. “No. That is due to a small conflict we had with each other ten years ago, in which he threw me under the bus at the Telegraaf management. That was not a nice move on his part. He knows everything about that, so that is why I dare to say all this.”
Forbid
What did Cornald want? “His intention was that I would no longer sit here, because I had said something about the Eurovision Song Contest,” says Jan. “Then he called the editor-in-chief at the time, who was Paul Jansen, and said: ‘Isn’t Jan also speaking on your behalf? Couldn’t you forbid that?’ and so on, you know. I don’t like that at all.”
He continues: “You can also call me directly and say: ‘Jan, would you please stop because you are saying things that are not correct.’ That’s always possible, but you shouldn’t go behind my back and call the editor-in-chief, with whom I happened to have a very good relationship at the time.”
Rot region
Has no attempt been made to calm minds? “We’ve seen each other before,” says Jan. “Then there was some kind of sorry afterwards at a premiere, but of course it remains a rotten prank. I just don’t like it.”
He concludes: “I have also met him in the nightlife. We offered him a beer in a café and he refuses to accept it. I don’t like those kinds of games. I don’t really have an argument with him, but he is not my friend. He is not my blood type. Let me put it this way.”
