No one really understands why, but the men of Today Inside have started their two weeks of broadcasts on Curaçao. Do you like it? “There is still work to be done.”
A football World Cup, an Olympic Games or another major event could be a good reason to take a popular talk show abroad, but this does not actually justify the current move of Today Inside to sunny Curaçao. There is no reason, no hook, nothing at all.
Staff outing
Johan Derksen burning down Sieneke Peeters, Merel Ek talking about the riots in Loosdrecht: these are topics that could just as easily have been discussed in Hilversum. Without the sweaty upper lip, without the somewhat awkward camera angles, without the feeling that as a viewer you are watching a staff outing to which you were not invited.
The funniest thing is that the VI men have been criticizing Eva Jinek for years because she broadcasts from Amsterdam, a thirty-minute drive from Hilversum. According to her, it is better for the atmosphere and the feeling not to be in the mind-numbing and ugly Media Park. Incomprehensible, says the VI trio. They themselves are now a twelve-hour flight from here for no reason.
What does Victor think?
Anyway: what do the two most important TV critics in the Netherlands think about it? Tina Nijkamp loves it; he was at the table yesterday and has a free holiday in Curaçao.
Victor Vlam is more critical. Although he will also be able to enjoy a free holiday in two weeks – Wilfred Genee does not want him, but Hélène Hendriks does have him on the guest list – he still has his doubts about it. “There is still work to be done for Today Inside,” he writes X.
Bad sound
According to Victor, there are quite a few things wrong. “Bad sound (because of the wind), sweaty heads and a messy broadcast. The atmosphere of sunny Curaçao has not yet been properly translated into the Dutch living room.”
Radio DJ Wouter van der Goes: “And I don’t understand why they are there now while everything will only start in 3 weeks. Do you understand that?”
Victor: “There isn’t really a reason for it, except the sponsorship deal with Corendon.”
Back for World Cup
Wouter doesn’t understand it. “But the World Cup is the reason, right? Or am I wrong?”
Victor clarifies: “No, it actually has nothing to do with that. The day before the World Cup starts, everyone is back in the Netherlands.”
Wouter: “Oooh ok. I thought it happened after Curaçao qualified for the World Cup. But that’s a shame. During the matches that Curaçao plays, the island goes completely crazy.”
Good viewing figures
All in all, VI managed to charm many viewers on Curaçao, namely 1.058 million. “Despite substantive criticism, the first Today Inside from Curaçao was well viewed. It is the best score of the program since February 2.”
The question is how many people will be left tonight, because according to… RTL Boulevard it’s raining complaints on social media. “I don’t see the added value of broadcasting from Curaçao at all. It’s just rough. Too much wind, poor sound. If you had adjusted the decor in the studio and you would have had the same thing. Better sound and cheaper,” he said.
