Pale Waves will perform in Cologne on September 17th and in Berlin on September 20th. Here is an overview of the information.

Pale Waves are coming back to German territory for two gigs in September.

Presented by MUSIKEXPRESS, the British band will play at the Artheater in Cologne on September 17th and at the Mikropol in Berlin on September 20th.

The mix does it: indie pop, goth aesthetics & 80s nostalgia

Since their formation in Manchester, Pale Waves have been one of the most exciting acts in the modern UK indie scene. Singer Heather Baron-Gracie and drummer Ciara Doran met while studying at the BIMM Institute and shortly afterwards founded the band, which quickly gained attention for their distinctive sound and visual aesthetic.

Musically, Pale Waves combine catchy synth pop with melancholic indie rock and references to the 80s. Songs like “Television Romance” and “There’s A Honey” made the group early hopefuls on the British pop scene. They were also supported by the environment of the band The 1975 and their label Dirty Hit.

In terms of content, Pale Waves stand for emotional openness, queer visibility and a modern interpretation of classic pop and wave elements. Frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie in particular repeatedly addresses identity and mental health in her songs – packed into great melodies between dream pop, alternative and dark synthwave.

Just not too sterile

MUSIKEXPRESS has accompanied Pale Waves since the band’s early days. In a review of the debut album MY MIND MAKES NOISES, ME author André Boße wrote about the group that they move in an “interesting mix of wave and rock” cosmos and transport the sound of the early 80s “quite successfully” into the present.

Boße also emphasized that Pale Waves are particularly exciting for listeners for whom modern pop has recently “become too sterile”.
