Weak UK data could boost prospects for BOEInterest rate increase diminish
If this week’s U.K. economic data suggests economic weakness, it could reduce the likelihood of interest rate hikes from the Bank of England in the coming months, ING’s Benjamin Schroeder and Michiel Tukker wrote in a research note. The British labor market data is due on Tuesday, inflation data on Wednesday and retail sales on Friday. Lower-than-expected wage growth and signs of economic slowdown “should make some BOE officials more relaxed about the risk of second-round effects of the current energy crisis,” they write.
