Martine van Os is seen as one of the figureheads of Omroep MAX, but what kind of status does she have exactly? Will it be a tragedy if she retires? “She’s just replaceable.”
For a broadcaster for the elderly, MAX employs a striking number of young presenters, but Martine van Os (69) obviously belongs to the old guard. Her work has been seriously scaled back. She was the face of the camping show We Are Almost There for a long time, but spent years complaining about how hard it all was.
Bloodletting?
Martine was eventually taken off that program, but it won’t be long before she starts complaining about how hard that friendly nodding in Time for MAX is. What if she also stops as a talk show host? Will MAX be able to overcome that or is it too much of a loss?
Well, broadcaster Jan Slagter doesn’t really seem to miss her. When asked what he would think if Martine retired, he answers in the Weekend: “If that is the case, then I will hear about it. We will also talk about that, when that should be, or when she would like that. But we have no insight into that yet.”
Replaceable
Jan wouldn’t lose sleep over it. “Of course: everyone is replaceable. At least, that’s how I look at it. I’m replaceable too.”
Isn’t he afraid that Martine will drop Time for MAX? “Well, I don’t know. Look, she will stop at some point too. She said herself that she wanted to stop We Are Almost There!, because it was too long. It is also a tough job, you leave home for five to six weeks and you are constantly working on the program.”
Solution
Marlijn Weerdenburg will take over the show. “We have found a very good successor in Marlijn. A warm personality who will soon be going out with the caravan.”
Jan concludes: “The conversations that Martine did were fantastic. I think Marlijn can do that too. She also did that on DNA Unknown, which was also a program that occasionally touched a nerve.”
