During an inspection of the transport of waste along the A67 highway in Geldrop, 35 violations were found on Tuesday. This inspection examined, among other things, road safety and environmental crime.
The police maintained control in collaboration with the Brabant environmental services and the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate. A total of 72 vehicles were checked. 13 people received a warning and 22 a report.
During the action day, the focus was on the transport of waste. Supervisors and police checked vehicles for, among other things, the accuracy and completeness of transport documentation.
According to the Brabant North Environmental Agency, the transport of waste is an important point of attention, because it is sensitive to fraud. “This could include incorrect or incomplete information about the origin of waste, its destination or the date of transport.”
Drug waste is a threat
Drug waste is mentioned as an example. “This type of waste can be dumped, resulting in serious soil contamination. This not only poses a threat to nature and the environment, but also to public health. By actively monitoring waste transports, the chance of being caught is increased and dangerous situations can be prevented.”
The Brabant North Environment Agency says that the action day was successful and that they will therefore organize such days more often.
