The police chase that started in Germany on Tuesday evening and ended with a crash at the CWZ hospital in Nijmegen appears to be related to an armed robbery of a supermarket in Kerken-Nieukerk, Germany. The German police and the Public Prosecution Service report this.

According to German authorities, the robbery took place on Tuesday around 7:45 p.m. at a discount supermarket Kerken-Nieukerk. An armed robber allegedly stole an amount of money. The suspect and an accomplice then fled in a car.

Officers saw the vehicle. The German police report that the occupants ignored stop signs and drove towards the Netherlands via the A57. The pursuit by the German police continued with permission on Dutch territory. Dutch agents also joined in Nijmegen.

Lamppost

The flight ended on Weg door de Jonkerbos at the CWZ hospital. There the driver probably lost control due to a steering error. The vehicle knocked over an advertising column, crashed into a lamppost and eventually came to a stop in the bushes.

There were two suspects in the car. They were arrested after the crash and checked at the scene by ambulance personnel. According to the German authorities, these are two Dutch people: a 27-year-old man from Utrecht and a 24-year-old man from Amersfoort.

German police report that the vehicle, captured goods and a knife have been seized.
