José Mourinho back to Real Madrid? Not a good idea, according to club icon Iker Casillas. The Spanish former top goalkeeper hopes that his club will choose another trainer.

Casillas, who has played 725 games in the Royal’s main squad, writes this on X. ‘I have no problem with Mourinho. He seems like a great professional to me. But I don’t want him at Real Madrid. I think other trainers would be more capable to train at the club of my life. Personal opinion.’

Yet nothing seems to stand in the way of the striking trainer’s return. According to Spanish media, negotiations are in the final phase. Real Madrid must still buy out the contract of the 63-year-old coach with Benfica. He will remain there until 2027.

Mourinho previously coached Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. During that period he won one Spanish league title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. In the Champions League, the Portuguese reached the semi-finals three times.

Successor Arbeloa

At the errant Real Madrid, he must now succeed interim coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who took over from Xabi Alonso this season. The Royal team missed out on all prizes this season and is fourteen points behind national champion FC Barcelona.

Casillas played goalkeeper at Real Madrid from 1999 to 2015. Only Raúl (741 matches) played more often for the superpower. The goalkeeper, who also scored 167 times for Spain, also worked with Mourinho from 2010 to 2013.
