Complaints about gender-conscious language with ‘them’ and ‘police person’ in final exams: ‘I understand that this causes annoyance’

With words such as ‘police person’ and ‘them’, HAVO students were presented with a large portion of gender-conscious language during the central Dutch exam this year. After criticism from BBB MP Caroline van der Plas and complaints from students at LAKS, the question arises: does such a topic belong in a final exam?
