Pop icon Madonna returns to the Tribeca Festival this summer with a new cinematic project – linked to her upcoming studio album “Confessions II”.
The project is described as a “cinematic experience” based on the first six tracks from Confessions II, including “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love” featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Madonna will premiere the film on Friday, June 5th at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
Directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, Confessions II runs just over ten minutes and combines music, fashion, nightlife aesthetics and surreal visual storytelling in typical Madonna style. A press release describes the film as “a transcendent journey that catapults the viewer through a shitty night remembered not for what happened, but for how it felt.”
Persecuted, worshiped, celebrated
It goes on to describe scenes in which Madonna is “ambushed, pursued and ultimately adored by a roving troupe of camera-toting women. From the bedroom to the club toilet, into the car, into the arena and even out into nature – they roam all the places where music thrives.”
Following the premiere, Madonna, Toro and Chase will appear on stage in an exclusive conversation with Jimmy Fallon.
“Madonna has proven for decades that reinvention is an art form in its own right,” Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal said in a statement. “‘Confessions II’ is immersive, provocative and utterly contemporary – while evoking the nightlife mythology that only she can create. We are thrilled to welcome Madonna back to the Tribeca Festival.”
First major Tribeca appearance since 2008
It is Madonna’s first major appearance at the Tribeca Festival since 2008, when she appeared at the world premiere of the documentary “I Am Because We Are.” Madonna wrote, produced and narrated the commentary for the Nathan Rissman-directed film about AIDS orphans in Malawi.
“Confessions II” will be released on July 3rd via Warner Records. The album is a sequel to Madonna’s 2005 work Confessions on a Dance Floor and is also her first LP since 2019’s Madame X.
