European press publishers win against Meta in battle over compensation for news fragments

Meta Platforms, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, among others, has suffered an important defeat at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), with potentially major consequences for the way in which technology platforms must deal with journalistic content. The Court ruled that press publishers are entitled to fair compensation when they allow providers of online services to use their publications.
