Olivia Rodrigo may have been just the lucky charm FC Barcelona needed to secure the La Liga championship against Real Madrid this weekend. On Sunday evening, Barça’s men’s team lifted the trophy after a 2-0 win – wearing a special edition jersey with Rodrigo’s logo, which graces the club’s latest collaboration with Spotify.
“Maybe she brought us a bit of luck today,” Pedri González told the press after the game. “It’s always nice when people like you support the club. [Olivia] has a very special energy that could easily blow me away.”
The Rodrigo-Barça collaboration is the latest in Spotify’s rotating artist partnerships for El Clásico, the club’s rivalry game against Madrid. Spotify had previously worked with artists such as the Rolling Stones, Travis Scott, Karol G, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.
Barça Femení starts
The Rodrigo celebrations began on Thursday when Claudia Pina, Aitana Bonmatí and FC Barcelona Femení took on CD Tenerife. Wearing jerseys bearing the singer’s logo, Barça secured a 3-1 victory – the team’s 27th win of the season – before lifting the trophy later that evening. The following weekend, Rodrigo congratulated the players at training and had his photo taken with several team members.
On Friday, Spotify transformed the historic Teatre Grec into a Rodrigo world, offering limited-edition Barça x Olivia Rodrigo merch – featuring the font and designs from the singer’s upcoming album, “You Seem So Sad for a Girl So in Love,” out June 12.
Collaboration items included a retro collared jersey that paid homage to the team’s 2003 design – in honor of the singer’s birth year. Fans were also able to purchase Nike hoodies, T-shirts and tote bags emblazoned with the club’s slogan “Força Barça” in the font of “You Seem So Sad” and the club’s colors, as well as a limited-edition Barcelona scarf with the singer’s name and club logo. The merch is available in the FC Barcelona store, but is selling very quickly – some pieces have already found their way to eBay.
During the performance, Rodrigo accepted a bouquet of flowers from a fan and performed all of her songs with over a billion streams in front of 1,500 selected fans from the Barcelona region. The star performed “Sour” classics like “Deja Vu,” “Traitor,” “Drivers License,” “Happier” and “Good 4 U,” as well as “Guts” tracks like “Vampire,” “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” “Lacy,” “Bad Idea Right?” and “Get Him Back!”
First appearance in a long time
“I haven’t played a show in a long time. This is my first one back, and I can’t think of a better place to do it than with you here,” she said onstage, dressed in Doc Martens and a babydoll dress. “I think this is the most beautiful venue I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The star even descended into the audience and serenaded fans with “Jealousy, Jealousy” as she walked through the rows of seats. She also performed the single “Drop Dead” from her new album – which she debuted at Coachella with Addison Rae – and the audience knew every single lyric.
The El Clásico celebrations culminated in Barça’s emphatic 2-0 victory over Real Madrid and the associated title win – two early goals from Marcus Rashford in the ninth minute and shortly afterwards from Ferran Torres made it possible. Rodrigo entered the pitch before the game and had his photo taken with several players, including Barça gem Lamine Yamal, who missed the game due to injury.
The singer was also spotted at the fireworks after the championship win. “forca barca!!!! thx a million 4 having me,” she wrote on Instagram.
Unraveled Tour in the fall
The Barcelona collaboration comes a few weeks after the announcement of her upcoming album and her appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” In the fall she will tour with the global Unraveled Tour.
