Milano, 11 May. (askanews) – The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella was greeted by warm applause upon his entrance to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan where he attended the concert for the anniversary of the reconstruction of the Theatre. It was May 11, 1946 when Arturo Toscanini conducted the reopening concert of the Scala, rebuilt after the bombings of 1943. Also at the celebration were, among others, the senator for life Liliana Segre, the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa, the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala.
The concert will be performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro alla Scala under the direction of Riccardo Chailly and Alberto Malazzi, Choir Master. In addition to the performance of Mameli’s anthem, the program includes some pages from Giuseppe Verdi’s Nebuchadnezzar.
