The man was visiting an acquaintance in Anna Paulowna on Saturday, but when he still had not come home on Sunday morning, his wife raised the alarm. She was also unable to reach her other half by telephone.

Anna Paulowna, Hoorn and Nijmegen

According to the acquaintance, the man got on his public transport bicycle drunk to catch the last train to Hoorn. So the police searched along roadsides, ditches, water and at Anna Paulowna station. The man was also searched in the vicinity of Hoorn station. All in vain.

The police even took into account that the man had fallen asleep on the train and ended up in Nijmegen.

Redeeming bell

But after hours of searching, the police received a redeeming call from the woman: her husband was back home.

As it turned out, the man had missed the last train at night and decided to walk to his house in Zwaag in a drunken state.

In eight hours he had covered forty kilometers. “In any case, he came home sober again,” writes a local police officer.
