The great outdoor fragrances, forest-inspired perfumes or again, and more simply, green fragrances. Many ways, all strictly Anglo-Saxon and increasingly widespread on social media – to define perfumes with green and grassy notes. Fragrances capable of evoking the sensation of nature as it awakens, with olfactory compositions in which notes of cedar, cypress and pine, but not only, give an immediate perception of well-being, relaxation and contact with nature.

Green and “grassy” scents, olfactory detox effect

The last one Censis report dedicated to the world of information contains a curious fact. The 38.1% of the Italians involved in the research declared that they had felt the need or had experienced digital detox at least once, i.e.n period of time, daily or otherwise, away from social media.

Another piece of data, this time emerging last autumn from research commissioned by Sorgenia regarding the relationship between Italians and forests, found that 94.6% of those interviewed consider the presence of woods and forests in our country to be fundamental. While 45.1% declared that they have “hugged” a tree at least once in their life, and 57.8% would like a nearby forest and not be forced to organize trips out of town at the weekend.

In short, the green world is really considered a very good antidote to the digital world. And this truth also seems to inspire the olfactory world of fragrances.

Green benefits

In Japan, spending quality time in nature is a very common practice followed by everyone, from children to the elderly. In fact, it is very often prescribed by the doctor. In Finland, however, Friluftsliv is practiced, i.e. outdoor break practices regardless of the temperatures. So much so that, according to a survey conducted in the country, 83% of the people interviewed practice it regularly and of these, 77% are in nature every week and 25% every day.

The reason? It has many benefits. Ptasting even just an hour a day in the greenery under your home lowers the level of stress and anxiety and is a help for forms of depression. And it purifies the lungs and thoughts.

Green notes in the bottle

There Fragrance Foundation UK defined the so-called “green” fragrances with the expression the great outdoor fragrances, thus identifying all those creations that are inspired by greenery, from woods to forests.

The common feature of all these fragrances? They give great calm and peace. This type of perfumes they base their olfactory pyramid mainly on earthy notes. Pine, cypress and cedar, which gives depth, but also eucalyptus and myrtle, or even synthetic notes that reproduce the aroma of sap or even all types of musk.

These in fact evoke the idea and perception of a walk in a wood or forest, stimulating a feeling of calm in the body and above all in the mind. Just a suggestion? Not exactly.

The effects of green notes on the mind

According to different research conducted over the years, but also according to the psychology of color, green is a color that has a strong impact on both the mind and the mindhe on the body: it has been highlighted that the heart rate tends to drop when faced with shades of greenthat blood pressure stabilizes, mood improves and creativity is also stimulated.

It would also seem that wearing glasses with green lenses during medical procedures has a relaxing effect on the body. The reason for all this? Subconsciously, this color is associated with nature, the original place of peace, understood as a refuge.

Perfumery works on these principles. The use of olfactory notes that recall nature has an anti-stress effect on people, not only because it lowers cortisol and reduces anxiety, but helps to instill greater calm and security.

Furthermore, these notes tend to amplify the sensation of freshnessespecially if you choose accords such as mint, basil or rosemary, and convey a feeling of well-being, if not even almost rebirth.

The compositions are also “Green”.

These creations tend to be green as a matter of fact. There are many perfume houses and brands that adopt responsible production practices, for example against waste or using only natural ingredients.

In particular, among elements most explored in recent times are phytoncides, natural compounds released by plants that have many benefits on the nervous system. Therefore virtuous fragrances, yesboth for well-being and for nature. All enclosed in green bottles.
