London duel at West Ham

©IMAGO

League leaders FC Arsenal led by Kai Havertz have increased their lead over rivals Manchester City in the Premier League with a tremor victory. The Champions League finalist won the London duel at West Ham United 1-0 (0-0) and can dream of their first championship title since 2004 with only two games left. Arsenal are now five points ahead of Man City again, but have played one game more than coach Pep Guardiola’s team.

Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal for the Gunners in the 83rd minute with a shot from 13 meters. Substitute German international Havertz jumped decisively out of the ball’s path in the penalty area. In stoppage time, West Ham celebrated the supposed equalizer. But when Callum Wilson scored (90+5), Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was obstructed – the referee decided on foul play based on video evidence.

For Man City, next Wednesday (9 p.m.) in the catch-up game against Crystal Palace, it’s about getting within two points of the Gunners. In the final of the premier class, coach Mikel Arteta’s team will face Bayern Munich’s conquerors Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30th.
