Açıkalın, in his post on his social media account, said that they have been making serious material and moral efforts for the club under great sacrifices and difficult conditions for about 1.5 years.
Explaining that they said goodbye to the Super League at the end of the process, Açıkalın said:
“Like you, we are deeply saddened. When we took office, we inherited a hopeless situation with 15 points. However, with the solidarity of our city, the unique support of our fans and the great struggle we put forward as the management, we managed to keep our Kayserispor in the league last season. Our only goal as we entered the new season was to get this great community out of the difficult period it has been in for years, both in sports and economic terms, and to bring it back to the strong structure it deserves. Immediately after the end of the season, on June 2 “We wanted to lay the foundations of the new structure by making an agreement with a valuable coach who has previously experienced significant success in this league and is on the agenda of many Super League clubs and big communities. However, due to the difficult economic conditions of our club, assignments on revenues and the lack of sufficient support, we were able to open the transfer board only on the last day of the transfer period, with our own means. In this process, while trying to balance the demands of our technical staff and the current budget realities, we could not fully realize the squad planning we desired.”
Açıkalın stated that after the results, they made changes in the technical staff, taking into account the justified reactions and expectations of the fans.
Emphasizing that they keep Kayserispor’s interests above all else, Açıkalın continued as follows:
“We tried to maintain our hope by making a new start with a valuable coach who is a representative of a football school that has experienced significant success in our club in the past and won trophies in his own country. However, what happened in the ongoing process is also known to the public. All our fans and the public should know very well that throughout our tenure, we kept the interests of Kayserispor above everything else. Even in the most difficult periods, we took care not to create an environment of chaos by exaggerating the deep problems experienced by our club. We acted with the understanding of ‘If an arm is broken, it remains in its sleeve’ We have chosen not to voice many of our problems publicly. The sadness, reaction and reproach of our fans are completely justified. However, I would also like to express that we are aware of the unfair and purposeful attacks that have been carried out systematically against the Kayserispor community and ourselves for a long time. Everyone should know that teams may fall, but great communities will survive. Kayserispor has the strength to rise again with its deep-rooted history, strong sense of belonging and great fans. “With the planning, lessons to be learned and unity to be achieved, we have full faith that our Kayserispor will come back much stronger.”
Açıkalın noted that after the consultations to be held this week, the decisions to be taken regarding the future of the club and the road map will be shared transparently with the public.
Explaining that they apologized to Kayserispor fans for the sadness they caused, Açıkalın said, “It is in the character of this community to learn from mistakes and stand up again. Kayserispor community will overcome these difficult days with its common sense, unity and uncompromising stance with dignity.” he said.
