“Huge mistake”: Arsenal opponent expresses suspicion

Arsenal win the London derby at West Ham thanks to a late goal. Even later, the “Gunners” were lucky with a VAR intervention.
With a 1-0 win at West Ham United, Arsenal extended their lead in the Premier League table to five points. Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute – a supposed equalizer for the hosts was canceled shortly before the end by video evidence.
In stoppage time, West Ham celebrated the supposed equalizer by Callum Wilson, who hit the ball out of the crowd and into the goal. However, based on video evidence, the referee decided on a foul on goalkeeper David Raya – much to the displeasure of the hosts. “This is a huge mistake by the VAR,” complained Tomas Souček on TV channel Viaplay after the game.
The West Ham professional referred to the league leaders’ approach: “In every game, Arsenal make so many blocking actions, so many small fouls. And now, when they need the title, they suddenly get the foul. It’s very disappointing for football.” Teammate Jarrod Bowen took a similar approach. “If you give the foul, you have to decide that every week,” said the offensive man angrily.
Fans also complained about a clear save from Arsenal’s Declan Rice during the disallowed West Ham goal. The VAR did not appear to have checked this action.
Trossard had previously scored from 13 meters. Kai Havertz jumped out of the ball’s path in the penalty area. The German international had recently been substituted on.
Manchester City have played one fewer game and are five points behind Arsenal. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team can reduce the deficit. The Champions League final is also waiting for Arsenal: on May 30th, coach Mikel Arteta’s team will face Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.
