Slavia fans storm the pitch with Bengalos and attack Sparta players – just a few minutes before the final whistle. The consequences affect your own club.
The 317th Prague derby between Slavia and Sparta came to an abrupt end on Saturday evening. When the score was 3-2 for Slavia, supporters of the home club stormed the pitch with Bengalos and apparently also attacked opposing players. The game was canceled. The incident prevented Slavia from winning the Czech championship early.
The leader had previously made up two gaps. The hosts were sent off in the 59th and 92nd minutes – before the storm began. Pyrotechnics also flew from the lawn into the stands.
Slavia President Jaroslav Tvrdík expressed his dismay. “Three or four minutes separated us from the championship celebrations, I think the players would have managed that,” said the 57-year-old. “Instead, it’s probably the biggest disgrace I’ve experienced in eleven years at the club.” Sparta reported an attack on one or two players.

Tvrdík continued that he considered the abandonment of the game to be legitimate. “When I spoke to our players, they said that if something similar had happened to us with them, we would have behaved the same way,” said the politician. “We cannot claim any extenuating circumstances. We can only apologize.” The case is now before the league’s disciplinary committee. “It is to be expected that the game will be scored against us,” explained Tvrdík.
