Winning debut for the world number one at the sold-out Foro: the South Tyrolean seeks his fifth success of 2026 in Rome, where he has never won

Jannik Sinner made his debut at the Internazionali d’Italia with an easy victory over Austrian Ofner, beaten 6-3 6-4 in a sold-out Central stadium. Gone is the bogeyman Mensik, the last one to beat the Italian in February in Doha. Let’s find out the prediction and odds for Sinner-Popyrin scheduled for Monday 11 May at 7pm.

SINNER-POPYRIN PREDICTION ODDS

The debut match lasted just over an hour and a half only because there were two interruptions due to problems caused by spectators in the Centrale stands. Jannik returned to the pitch after the quick and extraordinary success in the final in Madrid against Zverev and appeared in good shape even if not yet at his best on the clay of the Forum, so different from that of La Caja Magica.

To enter the round of 16, the world number one will not have to face Mensik, who beat him in the 500m in Doha, but the Australian Popyrin, the surprise winner of a match that seemed obvious. For Sinner against Ofner came the 29th consecutive success in the Masters 1000: having reached Federer, the Italian is now aiming for Djokovic’s record which had stopped at 31. From the knockout with Mensik to today, however, there have been 24 successes and four titles won in 2026.

For the bookies of the main betting sites there is no doubt about the success of Sinner, for which the 2-0 in the set betting against Popyrin is found at 1.18 on Bet365, 1.14 on Admiralbet, 1.13 on Betflag and 1.12 on Starcasinò.

THE POPYRIN SURPRISE

As we were saying, perhaps Sinner would have expected a rematch against Mensik after the knockout in Doha and instead he will find himself facing Popyrin. Against the Australian, at ATP level, the Italian has a 2-1 lead in head-to-head matches. The only defeat, dated 2021 on the clay of Madrid, is very far away. Jannik, however, won at the 2025 US Open and in Doha before going out against Mensik.

Popyrin had eliminated Matteo Berrettini in straight sets in the first round at the Foro, demonstrating that he was recovering after his immediate elimination in Madrid against Damm. Then, of course, the blow with Mensik.

In the match against Popyrin, the Over 18.5 who is on the board at 1.94 on Betflag, 1.92 on Admiralbet and 1.90 on Bet365 and Starcasinò must be evaluated in the overall game count.
