The fire brigade was deployed to Diepestraat in Antwerp’s Seefhoek on Sunday morning for a fire in an electronics store. It is still unclear exactly how the fire could have started, but an e-scooter may have caused the fire. Three children were taken to hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation.

“We received the report at 9.14 am,” says Marie De Clercq of Antwerp Fire Brigade Zone. “According to the reporter, it was burning in a shop. Upon arrival, that information turned out to be correct. It was a limited fire on the ground floor. Our teams were able to extinguish the fire and the situation was under control at 9.35 am.”
Afterwards, the fire crews proceeded to ventilate the building, which will take some time. Three children who were present in the building were taken to hospital as a precaution because they had inhaled too much smoke.
The affected store is an electronics store. There is no certainty yet about the exact cause, but according to initial reports, the fire started from an electronic scooter that was inside. The Diepestraat was closed by the emergency services for some time to allow the fire brigade to do their work. Tram traffic was also disrupted for some time.
