The clean-up campaign was part of the commitment to a clean and healthy living environment, says Vincent Vandommele, chairman of Groen Izegem: “Every piece of waste and plastic that is cleaned up cannot further pollute nature and our living environment. This is more important and topical than ever, especially in view of the problems surrounding West Flemish drinking water. By always involving a youth movement, we are also strongly committed to raising awareness among young people.” The youth movement sailed down the canal with kayaks.
