The idea for a half marathon through ‘t Gooi came from Mees Kremer (31) from Naarden. “When I moved here, I noticed that nothing like this existed yet.” Eighteen months later, he and his company are at the basis of the first half marathon of ‘t Gooi.
Guarantee safety
The ‘young entrepreneur’ explains why he and his partner have limited the number of participants to two thousand. “We have experience with running events of this magnitude. Then we can guarantee safety, for example with traffic controllers.”
But why a half marathon, but not a full marathon? “The marathon is not the most popular distance,” says Kremer about the 42.195 kilometers. With its 21 kilometers, the half marathon is feasible for a much larger group of runners.
Lots of interest in the region
There is also interest among residents of ‘t Gooi, Kremer notes. “Of course there are people from The Hague and Amsterdam, but also many from the region. After 24 hours we already had a thousand registrations.”
Even for those who consider a half marathon too much, there are plenty of options to participate. There is also a quarter marathon (10.55 kilometers), a kids run (500 and 1,500 meters) and a walking tour (10.55 kilometers) on the program.
